About Michele
Michele Longhurst, owner and founder of The Velvet Chair, has been a hair stylist with a keen eye for design and aesthetics for more than 32 years. A licensed cosmetologist and barber, she specializes in European color and progressive haircuts to suit the style of each individual client.
Michele's worked in Austin, Kansas City, and, since 1994, in the charming midwestern college town of Lawrence, Kansas. She also travels to accommodate clients needs in other cities.
She apprenticed under one of the original members of the Vidal Sassoon team who came to the United States. Michele has completed extensive continuing education programs with industry leaders such as Olaplex, Pulp Riot, TIGI, Goldwell, Schwarzkopf, Redken and L'Oréal Paris. She believes that continuing education is the most valuable way to stay ahead in an ever-changing field.
